Biomechanical Foot Assessment
Our Biomechanical Foot Assessment is suitable for patients aged 16 years and over and typically lasts up to 45 minutes.

Your podiatrist at The Foot Clinic Leeds will advise whether a biomechanical assessment is appropriate for your condition. Biomechanical assessment can help identify the underlying causes of pain or injury and, where appropriate, may assist with:
- Foot pain
- Lower limb pain
- Knee, hip and lower back pain
- Sports injuries
- Improving comfort and sporting performance
Biomechanics involves assessing the structure, alignment and function of your feet and lower limbs to help identify factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.
Treatment and Orthotics
Following your assessment, your podiatrist may recommend tailored advice, exercises, and, where appropriate, orthotics (insoles).
We provide chairside orthotics, meaning we stock a wide range of high-quality off-the-shelf insoles that can often be fitted during the same appointment. If a suitable orthotic is not available in stock, we can order one for you with a £10 non-refundable deposit. Once your orthotics have arrived, we will arrange a fitting appointment if required.
Please note that all orthotics are non-refundable, as they are individually fitted and trimmed specifically for each patient.
If you already wear orthotics or insoles, please bring them with you to your appointment.
What Our Assessment Includes
Our assessment focuses on the clinical examination required to diagnose and manage many common foot and lower limb conditions.
Please note that we do not offer:
- Electronic gait analysis
- Treadmill running assessments
- Plaster casting
- 3D foot scanning for custom-made orthotics
If, following your assessment, your podiatrist feels that you would benefit from a more advanced biomechanical assessment or custom-made orthotics, we will discuss this with you and recommend a suitable specialist clinic.
New Patients
At your first appointment, we will take a full medical and surgical history, including details of any prescribed medications. We will also carry out an initial foot assessment, including vascular and neurological screening, to assess the overall health of your feet.
Returning Patients
For returning patients, your medical details will be reviewed and updated as required, and clinical assessments repeated where appropriate.
Please watch the videos below for more information about biomechanics and chairside orthotics.
If you are unsure whether a biomechanical assessment is right for you, please don't hesitate to contact us—we'll be happy to advise.
