Frequently Asked Questions About The Foot Clinic Leeds

Welcome to The Foot Clinic Leeds

We understand that visiting a podiatrist for the first time, or trying a new clinic, can raise questions.

Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about appointments, treatments, our clinics and what you can expect when visiting The Foot Clinic Leeds.

If you cannot find the answer to your question, please contact our team and we will be happy to help.

Booking & Appointments

How do I book an appointment?

You can book an appointment by contacting our reception team by telephone or using our online booking options.

If you are unsure which appointment type you require, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.

Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist?

No. You do not need a GP referral to attend The Foot Clinic Leeds.

Patients can book directly with us for assessment, advice and treatment.

What happens at my first appointment?

During your first appointment, your podiatrist will discuss the reason for your visit, review your medical history and assess your feet.

They will explain their findings and discuss suitable treatment options with you.

Where appropriate, treatment may be carried out during the same appointment with your consent.

How long will my appointment take?

Appointment length depends on the type of appointment booked.

Routine treatments are usually shorter, while assessments and specialist appointments may require additional time.

If you are unsure which appointment type you require, please contact us before booking.

What happens if I have not attended for a long time?

If you have not attended The Foot Clinic Leeds for more than two years, you will need to book a new patient assessment appointment.  This allows us to update your medical history, obtain consent for treatment and carry out a full assessment before recommending treatment.

How do I cancel or change my appointment?

We understand that sometimes appointments need to be changed.

We kindly request at least 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or missed appointments where no notice is provided, may incur a missed appointment fee.

This policy allows us to offer appointments to patients who may be waiting for care.

Communication

How will I receive appointment reminders?

We use WriteUpp, our healthcare practice management system, to send appointment confirmations and reminders.

Appointments can be confirmed by text message or email.

You can update your communication preferences at any time by contacting the clinic.

Treatments

What is the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist?

There is no difference in the level of care provided by a Podiatrist or a Chiropodist. Both are protected professional titles regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and practitioners must meet the HCPC's registration requirements to use either title and practise legally.

The title Podiatrist is the modern, internationally recognised term, while Chiropodist remains widely used in the UK, particularly by older generations. Both titles describe the same qualified healthcare professional who specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of foot and lower limb conditions.

At The Foot Clinic Leeds, all of our Podiatrists & Chiropodists hold a degree or higher qualification in podiatry, maintain their professional registration with the HCPC, undertake regular continuing professional development (CPD), and are members of the

Royal College of Podiatry.  Whichever title you are familiar with, you can be confident that you will receive the same high standard of professional, evidence-based foot care.

Do you treat fungal nails?

Yes. We provide advice and treatment options for fungal nail problems.

Treatment recommendations depend on the severity of the condition and your individual circumstances.

Do you offer laser treatment for fungal nails?

We do not currently offer laser treatment for fungal nails.

We regularly review available treatments and recommend options based on clinical evidence and what we believe provides the best outcomes for our patients.

Do you offer verruca treatment?

Yes. We provide assessment and treatment options for verrucas, including Swift® Microwave Therapy where clinically appropriate.

What is Swift® Microwave Therapy?

Swift® uses microwave energy to stimulate an immune response within the skin to help the body fight verruca tissue.

Your podiatrist will assess whether this treatment is suitable for you.

What happens if I need nail surgery?

If nail surgery is recommended, your podiatrist will discuss the procedure, benefits, risks and aftercare requirements with you.

A separate consent form is completed before treatment.

A £199 deposit is required to secure the procedure appointment and allocate the required clinical time and team members.
